Mid-year is a big check-in time for my team and I. While we have weekly/bi-weekly one-on-ones, this check in is critical to our success as a team. Hopefully if my associates were doing their weekly sheets and saved the important e-mails they received, this will not be an arduous task. If not, it may take a lot more time to do.
I ask each team member to schedule their own meeting from June 15th through July 15th for one hour with me, and I ask them to book a conference room so we can get away from the rest of the team and talk freely. Our weekly check-ins are done at my desk, and typically only last 30 minutes.
I also allow them to cancel 1 of their weekly one-on-ones so they can spend the 30-60 minutes we would normally have scheduled working on their review form.
I have them complete the following questions, and we discuss the answers together, in addition to my observations on the questions.
The mid-year review is an opportunity to course correct if needed, as we’re only 6 months in, or to pat them on the back for a job well done and encourage them to stay the course.
